Common Types of Single-Ply Roof Membranes that we repair:
- Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM): Most common thermoset roof membrane,
typically found in carbon black, there is a white version that uses titanium dioxide as the top layer,
which reflects the sun's UV rays, preventing the "heat island" effect; in contrast the black absorbs
the sun's heat.
- Thermoplastic Polyolefin (TPO): Thermoplastic roof membrane commonly used in hotter climates
due to its refective property.
- Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC): The most fire retardant of all single-ply membranes, because of this, it
is the most commonly used single-ply thermoplastic membranes for buildings that house a restaurant,
due to the grease vent found on the roofs for the restaurant.
- Modified Bitumin Membrane (MOD BIT): Polymer-modified membranes, reinforcing fabric
and bitumen are combined into a single roll, no longer alternating layers as in BURs; but are
installed in multiple layers.
- Build-Up Roof Membrane (BUR): "Tar and gravel roofs," made of alternating layers of asphalt
or coal tar with reinforcing fabric.
